for a life of the longest-running mossms
personally i like to go to auctions but i do pick and choose where and when and its nice there are time slots when most can go, i do prefer quick auctions ones that go on forever with constant chat do bore me and i tend to leave, as for the quality of mossms i think there should be something for every budget i dont want to sit there and see no sale after no sale because people only put in top mossms, times are hard for a lot of people in rl at the moment and i dont think people have the sort of money i sl that they used to disposable income has gone down and that is reflected in sl, i do mossm for fun and i love them im not in them to make a lot of money
I feel it is all based on supply and demand.
If there are more new mossms born into the community than there are buyers, then the prices will crash as the desperate seller will drop to very low prices just to re cycle cashflow.
I also went to the auctions my 1st week, and found the price at auction to be 5x more than what I can buy at a market. And also sometimes from the same auctioneer who was pushing them at auction for sellers at 5x higher price. The motivation of an auctioneer is to sell for as much as possible to earn a higher pay.. the seller needs to sell for higher price to cover the auctioneer fee. Not a bad situation but can get out of control. Auctions by nature have a bit of intimidation to the buyers, like dont let him or her take this away from you... but that is part of the fun. I would like to hire auctioneers (note: I am not asking the mossm staff to be a job agency) and to make an auction facility that is more for the new buyers. With real education and support.
I feel the solution is to introduce new people to the mossms and then offer them education and support to ensure the market is stable.
Overall this is a great breedable and i feel it is the best one in SL. Keep up the good work mossm team!
I go to the occasional auction, not to buy(because there are always people there with tons more Lindens there than me and I always get outbid, and thats ok). I just like go to see all the different mossms being bred.
Everyone has their own reasons for raising mossms,if you are in it to make money then you "reap what you sow",meaning if you set your mossm for 20k and no one buys it, whose fault is that?
If someone wants to sell a mossm for 20k that's their right, also if someone wants to sell a rare and unique mossm for 1k, that is also their right. When we first start out with our mossms, we are not required to sign any waiver stating that we agree to keep prices high or low to avoid market stand stills, or crashes. Everyone has their own reasons for breeding mossms, mine is for fun and enjoyment and maybe to sell the occasional mossm to buy more food.It doesn't make my reason any more right or wrong.
Often times in breedables, those that price theirs low so they can buy food, pay rent, etc get looked down upon and even talked about and have the blame placed on them for market crashing, and that is wrong.
Maybe auction houses could have a "minimum requirement" on mossms, I don't know?
Everything I say is just my opinion and not meant as a knock on those who think and feel differently than me.
I get much more happiness in breeding a simple green and blue tiger , than I would if I paid 10k for a rare rumpleberryhumpleberry ramshackle whackle dingadangalinglong.
i so love the way you typed that rares name in i wouldn't have lol, i totally agree with your take on the pricing, it is up to the individual what price they are happy to sell at doesn't mean everyone else has to follow suit :) ( example you wouldn't IM a clothing creator in sl and say hey your prices are too low/high change them)and as far as the rares go there no good for breeding there purely for the collector if a person wants to sell theirs for 1k its their choice, to them as you say its 1k worth of food and rent and prices for rares wont crash because there's a limit to how many an individual will have and for the collector its a good deal and also people who buy to make a profit, to be honest i think the time has gone where people make 30-40-60k on breedables people just dont have the money spare anymore, anyways im not really concerned the market seems fine to me, Also when you look at breedables, you don't put all the work into designing them or creating them you pay for upkeep and breed them, i would spend days designing and creating jewellery in sl and if i priced it for the hours it took to make i wouldn't have sold anything, so really 2,000l$ for 1 mossm is a good profit margin ;) and if you choose to have 200+ of any breedable you should be prepared to loose that investment as i did with one a while ago, I only invest what im prepared to loose no one knows what will happen in the future im just gonna enjoy them while i can cos there cute and cuddly lol
PS i also agree these are currently the best breedable in sl :) keep it up guys
I personaly have seen many many breedables get so far out of hand (the Horses) that I was forced to sell low to make any L$'s at all, and then It was not even worth it because that didn't even cover the cost of the food to feed the darn things. One of the things I told myself when deciding to start a new breedable a year later was that I was not going to do that again. If I never sell even 1 Mossm then I'm okay with that. If I have to Cry-Pod every baby that comes from mating then I'm okay with that. I learned (the hard way) never to put in money I'm not afraid to loose! if your in a game (which is what Mossms are) then you ARE going to loose money. The few people that are going to make money (not counting the creators) are poeople that are the ones putting 100.00$'s of dollars into SL for the food, the land (prims), and the advertising. If you are breeding because they are cute, and you want to have fun, and watch them grow up and see all the cool things they can do, and yes, possibly sell one here and their, then you're on the right path.
I know some reading this will snarel at this post, and peronaly that's okay. Sometimes the truth hurts. I'm in Mossms for the fun of it, and I will price my Mossms at a fair price and I promise you I won't be worrying about what my neighbor is pricing theirs at because no one person can crash a market. It takes a community to crash a market.
I'm actually a little confused by the first post that seems to be suggesting that we have too much stuff and not enough stuff at the same time. Could you, the original poster, clarify what your concerns are?
I don't mean to be dense or difficult but I really don't understand and would love to provide a thoughtful response if possible.
I think by "races" they meant breeds rather than a arcing event. ;)
Dah! We need a blond Mossm like me. If they can have pig races why not mossm races. Fastest one that chases the pizza around the track gets the pizza.

I am still completely burned out from the auction scene since the horses, but it doesn't mean that new breeders might not enjoy it. It is a social thing. I too will just go and get what I want rather than wait out an auction.
You raise an interesting point Melangel about the quality of the Mossm and all I can say is that historically when auction places put limitations on the items sold, many get bitter. Now I don't know how current auctions are running but what I experienced in the past was a push for money/tips from sales, pressure on sellers to 'support' other sellers (bullpucky), and the auction places manipulating what is valuable. Example (I hope I don't puke)
'Ohhh this one has white eyes! You all know what that means!'
No, I don't, except that you (auctioneer) are pushing there to be significance that isn't there!
There used to be a business that made it 'Puurfectly' horrible to be a breeder/seller because they just went fast forward 300 miles per hour and ran Kats, Cats, Horses, Meeroos, Fish etc right into the ground over flooding, undercutting and making a very hostile marketplace. Those practices are still out there as I mentioned above (dens and rocks) and I do not know honestly if Mossm will be any different in 6 months.
BUT...I hope so
