Shared Environments

New to beta for these, rezzed out and started the test with a friend, according to an earlier post the environments can be shared. Rezzed out my 8 Mossms alongside my friends items, and she is earning slack - I am not. Do we in fact need to own some of the environment items each, or is this a bug?

You will earn slack in your friend's environments. It takes about an hour before it shows up on the web site though.

It was wll over an hour, my friend was earning, mine rezzed at the same time were not, as I said - rezzed together. I rezzed out an environment item - hey presto, earning. Again, I ask, is this normal - or a bug. I DID read the onsite info thoroughly before posting my query.

When you rez mossms, they start posting slack within an hour or so of when they're rezzed. When I checked yours this morning, they were under 2 hours old and you had 106 slack posted. The mossm earns slack, regardless of whose environment they are working in. Are you seeing something different? So far, it looks like all is well.

The way mossms work right now is that they report their earnings every 1-2 hours, and the exact time between 1 and 2 hours is random, to help prevent mossms from all bunching up and reporting at the same time after sim restarts, which would create huge load spikes.

If you're interested in seeing whether this is working, try this experiment. Pick up your environment and put the mossms to work in your friend's environments, with none of your own environments out. Record your amount of posted slack. Wait 3 hours. At the end of this experiment, you should have about 3 hours' worth of slack posted to your account that you did not see before. If you try this experiment for anything less than a couple of hours, you may not see results posted, since each mossm reports in a random period between 1 and 2 hours each time.

The accounting on resource production is very important, so we're watching it carefully. We encourage you to try this experiment yourself, because if there are problems here we need to know about it. Something we have on our to-do list to do is to change it to report in between 30 minutes and 1 hour (instead of a random period between 1 hour and 2 hours), to help avoid the kind of concern you're seeing.

Like I said, production of slack is real important to us, so I did some checking and calculation to make sure there's no malfunction here. You have 8 mossms, and as of now they're all around 7 hours old: http://www.mossms.com/internal/player/titian.minotaur/mossms/

That's 8 mossms times 7 hours = 56 mossm hours. Adult mossms produce 10 slack per hour, which would be 560 slack. Yours are babies and produce half as much as adults, so I expect about 280 slack. This is estimated of course, since mossms turn in their time cards once per 1-2 hours, so it could be any number around 280.

As of now, you have 298 slack.

So it looks like they've been producing about what we'd expect in their entire 7 hours of life. If they were messing up and not producing in their first hours before you put your own environments out, I'd expect to see a hole in their production, with less than the expected amount produced.

It really looks like it's working as intended to me. But it's causing you concern, which means it's a problem for us. We're going to adjust it to report in more frequently, which will help avoid these kinds of concerns.

In all seriousness: this is important for us to get right, and I do appreciate you reaching out to us and telling us about your concern. Try it out and let us know if it looks like it's malfunctioning. We want you to love our stuff, we're committed to doing whatever we can to make it delight you instead of concern you.

The answer was exactly what I needed - I waited until they were 90 mins old before becoming concerned - but my rezzing my own environment items and the production of slack may have been coincidence. I will test the theories regardless - that's what beta is about :-) Thanks for the reply, and yes, shorter reporting times might be a help.

FYI, the theory holds up - the averages over 24 hours were approximately the same.. slight differences noted were evened out over the week. Good number crunching fun :-)

Situation: We have our own land and then a rental in another sim that we rp in.
Question: If we have food we loaded on our land, will we need to have seperate food at the other sim if we have a few there, or will they be fed no matter where they are since it's loaded on our accounts?

They will eat, where ever they are, even in inventory. As far as I know.
