It has been a while since we first announced our major revamp and we are pleased to finally be able talk about the changes coming in Phase 2.

We’ve been pretty quiet about the changes, and we’re sorry for that. We know its been tough for many of you to wait for us with only a small amount of information. We needed to be sure we could deliver before publicly committing and we appreciate your patience. Thank you, all of you, for waiting with us.

So, why did Phase 2 take so long and what’s so special about it? Those are two great questions! It took a long time because it is quite a large update. Not only does this touch multiple areas of the existing game, we also created an entirely new game system (collections) and incorporated it into our existing game. The collections was a big project.

Achievements

We’ve introduced a number of new achievements for you to work on. These achievements cover some of the new content we’ve already introduced - like colors and environments - and also some of the content coming in our phase 2 release. For now, achievements are still just for fun and have no impact on the game but we are starting to think about a rewards system to incorporate into it.

We’ve finished this portion of development and decided to go ahead and release it. Many of you have enjoyed achievements in the past, we hope you enjoy these new challenges.

Collections

We’ve created an all new system in which you will be able to collect and turn in very specific types of Mossms in exchange for a new resource called Splurt.

Here’s how it will work: when we release this, you’ll find a new section on the website called “collections.” Here you will find lists of Mossms that you can collect and then send to space (you send Mossms to space in an Ultra Probe). Once you’ve sent all of the Mossms in a given collection to space you’ll earn some Splurt.

Once you have completed enough collections and earned enough Splurt you will be able to use your Splurt to purchase some new passable traits or power ups.

New Traits

We currently have the following possible trait slots:

  • Color 1
  • Color 2
  • Blend
  • Fur/Skin 1
  • Fur/Skin 2

We are introducing two new traits to fit in those slots:

  • 1 new color: Rainbow (can fit in color 1 or color 2)
  • 1 new blend: Apaloosa

We are also introducing 3 brand new trait slots:

  • New trait slot: Particles (there will be a wide assortment of different particles)
  • New trait slot: Shiny
  • New Trait slot: Glow

These traits will be purchasable with a new resource called Splurt. Splurt is earned when a player completes a collection.

The traits are passable but only on Fauna Rosa.

Power Ups

Power ups are items that you can purchase to change certain attributes on your Mossm. You could, for example, buy one more Oomf to apply to your favorite Mossm, or reduce your chance to get a solid Mossm during your next breeding cycle.

Return of Ancestry

We’re not too proud to admit when we make a mistake and we did. That mistake was the removal of ancestry. We’ve had lots of feedback from our fans and we realize it was not the best idea. So we will be turning it back on. However, there will be some important changes. Those changes are:

  • Passing a blend can only happen on the planet that corresponds with the blend. As an example; if you want to pass tigers you’ll need to breed on Catania. Tigers will not pass on any other planet. Similarly, moonstars will only pass on Black Starlight. If you try to breed a blend on the wrong planet the blend will be ignored regardless of the number of time it appears in the ancestry.
  • Every Mossm, even solids, will retain some of the DNA from the planet it was born on and can pass that DNA during breeding regardless of whether the trait appears on the Mossm. So a Mossm that has the honeybadger blend will also have a little bit of ringtail in its DNA and a Mossm with a tiger blend will have a little bit of cheetah in its DNA.

We believe these changes will help keep the value of blends high, since they can’t be devalued by passing on lesser planets, and will also reduce some of the randomness that plagued the ancestry system. Though, admittedly, there will still be some perception of randomness if one doesn’t educate themselves on the role of planets but we guess that can’t be helped. In addition, adding ancestry back in permits a user to eventually get more reliable results if they make good breeding choices.

Release Day

Right now we’re planning on releasing Phase 2 on the 23rd of December at approximately noon SLT. However, there is a good chances that we will be done sooner than that. If that happens, we will deliver as soon as it is complete rather than making those of you that waited with us continue to wait even longer.
